Computer tips for trouble free computing
Many computer users take for granted that their Desktop or Laptop PC will continue serving them day in and day out without fail. People rely on their computers more and more as a form of communication both with freinds and family and as a link to the outside world, via the internet.
There’s an underlying attitude amongst some more casual users, which can be deemed a disregard for the machine itself. Most want it to ‘just work’ or ‘do what it’s supposed to’. If you compare the use of a computer with that of a car, there are some quite stark similarities. Both need regular non-professional simple maintenance to keep them running smoothly. With a car it’s things like checking the water, oil, tyres and lights regularly and with a computer it’s things such as regular backup of important files, cleaning of temporary files and defragmentation of the hard disk.
So how do everyday folk take care of these tasks without too much fuss?
- The option which I recommend more than any other these days is a very handy disk cleanup tool called Ccleaner. This utility makes it easy to clean the temporary files from your hard disk at the click of a button. If used regularly, it takes literally seconds to complete and is best used just before turning your computer off after each session.
- For backup solutions, you can’t beat a good backup utility but for the easiest route, a large capacity pen drive and literally dragging and dropping the files onto the drive is the best by far. External usb hard drives are also a good bet if you have a large collection of photos, music or videos.
- Your computer hard disk can quickly become fragmented, with files scattered randomly accross the disk. Whist there is an in-built tool for correctig this in the Windows operating system, I’d recommend downloading and installing ‘Auslogic disk defrag’ which is a free program and is quick and easy to use.
- The last tip is probably the most important…. Check the integrity of websites which you visit. A good tool for checking websites is the ‘Netcraft Toolbar’ which can be downloaded from netcraft.com. It integrates into Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers and is quite light on resources. It is still best to be dilligent with sites you’re unfamiliar with and it’s best to stick to sites from trusted companies especially when purchasing.
I’ve tried not to be too technical or in-depth as this is aimed at people who really don’t want the hassle of messing about too much or trying too hard to grasp new concepts. The truth is, most experienced computer users know these things and many ignore them… sometimes at their peril, resulting in the need for computer repair experts.
If you find yourself in a disaster situation, call an expert straight away. The longer you leave it, the more chance of irreperable damage to the system or files… Safe computing.

http://www.cnet.com Tons of video show you how to do anything, gadget, software and is free.
Defragment your drive regularly.
Check how many programs you have running on startup, to many will slow down pc.
Then download and use these programs for security.
Do full scans first time then run them every so often.
Adaware, spyware remover.
Spybot search and destroy 1.5
Free avg anti- virus
ccleaner ( removes cookies, temp files etc )
should I Defragment on a set schedule, or only if I notice a slowdown?
when i defrag i notice i loose space, not much, but i loose it slowly through the defragmentation, like says its at 98.8GB, it would go down to say 98.5GB after abit, and keep going down, by the end of the defragmentation ive lost about 1-3GB
your local sbdc or community development office can offer individualized help.
have you developed a business plan?
What are your financing options?
Have you defined where to get parts and tools?
What are the demographics of your customers- individuals or businesses?
does your business have a name? make up some cards and post them around town. many libraries, stores and gas stations provide bulletin boards to help spread the word.
only when you notice that your computer is slowing down, Be careful using a defragmantation software though, i used it back when it was windows xp, it made my disk drive bananas.
Try vidoejug.com They have videos to help with computers. Hope it helps.
Can you please explain you question ?
Get a flash drive and put some stuff on it.
Also, you can clean up fragmented files (on a PC) by doing a Defrag:
To do this, go to My Computer, Right click on "Local Disk(C:)" and choose "Properties." Under the "Tools" tab, find where it says "Disk Defragmentation" and select "Defragment Now."
This shouldn't do any harm to your computer or files, but might clear up a little extra space for you!
If you have a Mac, I dunno what to tell you…
Follow these steps to do computer maintenance.
- run Disk Cleanup – from the System Tools section of Accessories
- Open My Computer, then Right Click on your C drive and pick PROPERTIES. Pick the Tools section and click on CHECK NOW. Check both tests, and YES, let it run after you restart. You see, CHECK DISK will ensure that your hard drive is working completely. This test might take an hour or so.
- run DEFRAG – from the System Tools section of Accessories.
Keep your anti-virus solution up to date, and run a full scan weekly.
Keep your anti-spyware solution up to date, and run a full scan every few days. I recommend the free SpyBot Search & Destroy that you can get from http://www.download.com
Do all of this regularly, and your computer will run better.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
YOUR GAY!
I rebuilt my partner's acer aspire after it blew up. She was always complaining it ran too slow. She had everything but the kitchen sink on it. I bought her a new computer and re-built hers, but this time made sure it was lean and mean – no programs I hardly ever used. Still had XP, Dragon naturally speaking, Office 2007, so it had lots of heavy duty programs, just not any unnecessary ones.. It is now lightning fast. My best recommendation is therefore, although a bit drastic, to back up to an external drive all the files and programs you think you may want and then do a clean install. Good article here:

If that's a bit too much for you and you just want a free all in one cleaner I've found Glary Utilities to be the best. Run this regularly and it will certainly speed up your computer, or stop it slowing down further. Download here:

That one does everything the paid for ones do, and the registry cleaner is less aggressive than some of the better known ones.
Also don't forget some anti-virus programs are notorious for slowing the computer down. NTL Net-guard/Virgin PC-guard being one example.
